Biodegradable PLA
The Biodegradable PLA is a Polymer obtained through the fermentation of a source of carbohydrates such as corn starch or sugar cane.
During the production, the corn is grounded when wet, this process separates it from the starch.
The starch is then mixed and heated with acids or enzymes. In this process the starch is split in dextrose (D-glucose), the corn sugar. In the end, the fermentation of the glucose produces L-Lactic acid, which is the basic component for PLA.
Maeko’s products containing PLA are 100% biodegradable , they are wet-proof, breathable, flexible, non inflammable and recyclable.
