Maeko aims to offer natural fibre padding designed for designers and creatives committed to highly sustainable production. Our natural padding promotes the use of virgin raw materials and contributes to a significant reduction in agro-industrial waste in the supply chain.

Made from hemp fibre, our padding is breathable and thermally insulating, making it an excellent eco-friendly choice for protection against the cold. Hemp is one of the most environmentally friendly fibres available, with a cultivation cycle lasting just 100 days, without the use of pesticides, and plays a key role in soil nutrition and erosion control. It is, without doubt, the most versatile plant on the planet.

Furthermore, our padding is blended with PLA fibres, making it 100% biodegradable, moisture resistant, breathable, flexible, lightweight, non-flammable and recyclable.

PLA (polylactic acid) is a polymer produced by fermentation from carbohydrate sources such as corn starch or sugar cane. The process begins with wet milling of the corn, which separates the starch. The starch is then mixed with acids or enzymes and heated. During this phase, the starch is converted into dextrose (D-glucose), or corn sugar. Finally, the fermentation of glucose produces L-lactic acid, which is the basic component of PLA.
