Pomegranate (Punica Granatum) extract
Pomegranate peel is a valuable source of tannins, containing approximately 20% of pelletierin. The main colouring agent present is granatonin, in the alkaloid form N-methyl granatonin, which makes up approximately 23% of its content and gives the colouring agent its characteristic colour.
The dye made from pomegranate extract produces a range of colours from pale yellow to deep orange. The final shades vary depending on the type of fibre used, the pH of the water and the exposure time to the dye. In general, the result tends to be warm and bright, making pomegranate extract a popular choice for dyeing natural fabrics.
Extracts
The powder extracts are a concentrated form of natural pigment, obtained from plants, flowers, roots, animal sources and minerals. These extracts are stable, keep for a long time and allow for precise dosing, making them ideal for those who wish to colour yarns and fabrics naturally.
Please note that the photo is for illustrative purposes only: the color of the natural extracts may differ from that shown in the shop, but the quality is always guaranteed and tested before distribution.
Doses and timing
Maeko avoids going into details concerning proportions, doses and specific times, leaving such information to those who already have experience in natural dyeing.
It is essential that those approaching this process have the freedom to experiment and adapt the techniques according to their own needs and experience.
Here we offer an extensive showcase, designed to encourage the practice of hand-dyeing and stimulate everyone's creativity.
