Chestnut
Soluble Extract for Natural Tincture
Price range: 11,00€ through 39,00€
The extract of Chestnut is obtained from the bark and fruit of the chestnut tree, which is widespread in Europe and Asia.
This natural dye, available in powder form, is used to dye natural fabrics and yarns, offering shades ranging from warm brown to light beige.
The powder dissolves easily in hot water, and the use of a mordant helps to fix the colour evenly and durably.
An amount of extract equal to 20-70% of the weight of the material to be dyed is usually used. The fabrics are soaked in the solution for a period of 30-60 minutes, stirring regularly to ensure uniform absorption.
After dyeing, fabrics must be rinsed in cold water and dried in the shade, thus preserving the depth and richness of the brown shades obtained.
Extracts
The powder extracts are a concentrated form of natural pigment, obtained from plants, flowers, roots, animal sources and minerals. These extracts are stable, keep for a long time and allow for precise dosing, making them ideal for those who wish to colour yarns and fabrics naturally.
Please note that the photo is for illustrative purposes only: the color of the natural extracts may differ from that shown in the shop, but the quality is always guaranteed and tested before distribution.
Doses and timing
Maeko avoids going into details concerning proportions, doses and specific times, leaving such information to those who already have experience in natural dyeing.
It is essential that those approaching this process have the freedom to experiment and adapt the techniques according to their own needs and experience.
Here we offer an extensive showcase, designed to encourage the practice of hand-dyeing and stimulate everyone's creativity.
