Mauro Vismara

A little bit of our history

Maeko Tessuti & Filati Naturali was born out of Mauro Vismara's passion for hemp fibre. In 1998, he unleashed his entrepreneurial vein, deciding to abandon his activity as an Osteopath for good in order to take his first steps into the world of natural fabric production.
He is thus dedicating himself to a new and exciting activity that combines his strong interest in the use of natural resources with the careful listening to the new demands of the fashion industry, particularly in the field of ethics.
Determined to offer interesting novelties to a restless sector eager for alternatives, he studied, got to know and interpreted yarns of natural origin to create special and interesting weaves and create new and precious fabrics.
Working tirelessly and in the name of continuous improvement, Mauro pursues the constant goal of enhancing the natural characteristics of the fibres, ennobling them through the use of modern finishing treatments to make them ever softer and more seductive, without ever distorting their naturalness.
Maeko, with the aim of verticalising the various manufacturing processes, acquired and developed a space dedicated to the dyeing stages, which is also useful for the widespread use of GOTS-certified dyes.
The purpose of this activity is to maintain strict control of the entire production route and to keep in line with the directives dictated by the R.E.A.C.H. (Control for the Safe Use of Chemical Substances) Regulations.
Thus, a technical dyeing department was set up in the province of Como to provide various services, useful both for its own production and for all companies in the fashion/furniture sectors that require them.
This department focuses on the services most requested by the companies themselves, such as the Lab Dip, an indispensable tool for studying samples, or dyeing for more limited productions, starting from a few metres.

Today, through dynamic and constant growth, Mauro, with Maeko, produces high quality natural fabrics with a controlled supply chain, contributing to the development of a sustainable economy, friendly to nature and respectful of the environment and the individual. Yarns made from hemp, nettle, bamboo, linen, organic cotton, alpaca, yak and other materials are processed by expert Italian technicians and then placed on the national and international clothing and furnishing market. Each product is designed to meet the needs of companies that wish to combine quality, ethics and respect for natural rules, paying particular attention to the selection and use of excellent materials for their creations.

In 2019, the historic Filarte factory, specialising in worsted spinning, came under the ownership of Maeko. With a strong commitment to ethics and sustainability, Maeko chose to keep the entire Filarte technical team, thus enhancing a heritage of knowledge that embodies the traditions of Italian textiles. Craftsmanship, an expression of our culture and manual skills, is passionately guarded, while innovation guides our path.

In October 2024, Maeko entered into a strategic merger with Manifattura Filarte, relocating the historical headquarters from Milan to Quaregna. This decision was motivated by the desire to optimise activities and embrace the tranquillity and beauty of the Biella region, far from the chaos of the metropolis. In this way, the company not only preserves its craftsmanship heritage, but also looks towards a sustainable future, in perfect harmony with nature. Maeko continues to pursue its mission of combining land and product, creating fabrics that tell stories of care, quality and respect for our planet.
