In 1998, Maeko was just an idea, born out of Mauro's entrepreneurial spirit and his passion for hemp and natural fibres.
From a small craft business, whose desk was the simple kitchen table, Maeko has grown into a vertical company specialising in natural fibres. We transform fibres into yarn in Biella, thanks to the acquisition of the historical Filarte spinning mill, we create both jersey and shuttle fabrics throughout northern Italy and we dye in our dyehouse in Bregnano in the province of Como.
In recent years we have grown a lot, facing great challenges but also rejoicing in our achievements.
Today we are ready to take a new step and want to share this new adventure with you.
As of this year, Maeko has become a Startup 4.0. This transformation will give us the opportunity to put our foot on the accelerator in our projects, investing in research and development.
In the spinning mill we have already implemented energy-saving equipment, making our production more ethical and sustainable.
Thanks to the development of post-agricultural/pre-industrial tools, we will add a new piece to our RIFLOC project by realising our goal of reconstructing the hemp and nettle supply chain in Italy, starting from already active organic plantations.
We can thus obtain a high-quality fibre to use as a starting point in our production line, creating products that are traceable at every stage and 100% Made in Italy.
Motivated by this spirit of transformation, we decided to further improve our yarns and fabrics.
Thanks to the experiments of the past few years, which we have always shared with you, we are able to create Italian products of the highest quality.
We have reviewed our entire sample collection: in the coming months, some of the fabrics that have accompanied us over the years will be retired, while others that are part of our DNA and that you know and love have been refined.
High in quality, stability and strength, they will be the new spokespersons of our philosophy and craftsmanship.
A more ethical world that respects nature and its resources is possible.
