Acacia Bark Extract (Acacia Nilotica)
Acacia nilotica is a genus of shrubs in the subfamily Fabaceae, known for its bark rich in phenolic compounds, including tannins, quercetin and catechin. This bark is widely used in dyeing and cosmetics.
The extract appears as a dry, dark brown-yellow crystalline powder, characterised by remarkable stability and colourfastness.
The extraction process takes place by boiling the bark and pods of the tree in water, resulting in a slippery liquid. Once evaporated, this liquid leaves a tannin-rich extract known as catechin, which is easily soluble in water.
Extracts
The powder extracts are a concentrated form of natural pigment, obtained from plants, flowers, roots, animal sources and minerals. These extracts are stable, keep for a long time and allow for precise dosing, making them ideal for those who wish to colour yarns and fabrics naturally.
Please note that the photo is for illustrative purposes only: the color of the natural extracts may differ from that shown in the shop, but the quality is always guaranteed and tested before distribution.
Doses and timing
Maeko avoids going into details concerning proportions, doses and specific times, leaving such information to those who already have experience in natural dyeing.
It is essential that those approaching this process have the freedom to experiment and adapt the techniques according to their own needs and experience.
Here we offer an extensive showcase, designed to encourage the practice of hand-dyeing and stimulate everyone's creativity.
